Transport in Prague

Travelling by public transport is only possible with a valid ticket, which has to be obtained before boarding the vehicle or entering the metro system. The ticket is valid only if marked in the validation appliance. Tickets can be bought at most metro stations (look for the yellow/orange slot machines) or in Dopravni Podnik Information Centres, at hotels, news stands, tobacconists etc.


Basic ticket – 32 CZK (one Euro presently equals about 26.00 Czech crowns, one US Dollar about 22 Czech crowns). Tickets can be used 90 minutes from the moment of validation. Short term ticket – 24 CZK. Tickets can be used 30 minutes from the moment of validation. Luggage – 16 CZK (if the dimensions exceed 25x45x70 cm).
24-hour ticket – 110 CZK
3-day ticket – 310 CZK

The metro system operates every day between 4.45 a.m. and midnight.
Most trams and buses operate every day between 4.30 a.m. and midnight. The frequency of public transport during the day depends on the time of the day.
The period between midnight and 4.30 a.m. is covered by the operation of night trams and buses.

Taxi. A taxi stand is immediately outside the arrival hall. The journey from the airport to the centre of Prague should not exceed 600–800 CZK (ca. 22-30 euro).
